Less mobile...
I walk with 9 toes instead of 10, because I am missing my right big toe. This makes me less stable and I need orthopedic shoes with extra support.
Since I got my dog Tommie in 2022, I walk a lot more than ever. But standard dog leashes turned out to be impractical: they were too short, dull in color or limited my freedom of movement.
Even the "hands-free" (hunting) lines I found lacked flexibility or had fixed rings in awkward places. To get real comfort and versatility, I often had to buy extra accessories—making cheap expensive.
As a graphic designer I decided to design the ideal dog leash myself: comfortable, multifunctional and precisely tailored to what I and my dog need. So I started sketching...
From frustrations to own product(s)...
The first prototypes and test lines were an immediate success with friends and acquaintances. Still, I doubted whether I really wanted to make a company out of this, so I decided to first investigate how unique my idea was. Coincidentally ( as if it was meant to be ) there was a big dog event that week, and I immediately bought tickets.
As soon as I entered the large hall, I got a lump in my throat - because secretly I have wanted to work with dogs since I was a child, but I always told myself 'that there is no work to be found in that'. Everything in me shouted: "This is it! This is what I want to go for!" At that fair I did not encounter any competitors and I felt completely at home among the many dog owners, trainers and entrepreneurs. That gave me the energy and motivation. That is how I started Pootjes Plezier .
Our mission
With Pootjes Plezier I want to inspire other dog owners to continue to enjoy every walk, despite any physical limitations. Our dog leashes are designed with extra attention to comfort, ease and style - especially for people who are less mobile, get tired quickly or use aids. I know from my own experience how important it is that a dog leash supports you instead of hindering you.
Thanks to my many years of interest in dog behavior and training, I not only make beautiful, but above all functional products that really help in everyday life.
My goal is simple : that you and your dog can go out together relaxed, safely and with pleasure - in a way that suits you. Because a nice walk starts with the right line. 🐾
